Society for Education in Anesthesia: Research Committee Mission Statement and Message from the ChairThe research committee for the Society for Education in Anesthesia is committed to assisting the society and its members with promoting and developing medical education research as it relates to the field of Anesthesiology. A primary role of the committee is organizing and grading abstracts for the annual spring meeting. Including identifying the best abstracts for oral presentations and the best poster presentations. The committee is committed to assist all authors to have their abstracts ultimately published as a manuscript in a peer reviewed journal The abstracts from the spring meeting are currently published in JEPM but we would like to help the authors transform the abstracts to manuscripts for publication. To assist in this matter the committee is responsible for providing research related resources to its members on the research portal at the SEA website. This is a growing endeavor and we would like to hear from any members what tools or resources would be helpful. Input and assistance from the members is vital to the success of the committee. The members of the committee meet twice a year at the fall and spring meetings. All members of the committee are asked to grade the manuscripts for the spring meeting and are encouraged to help moderate poster sessions at the spring meeting. Finally, the research committee must review all surveys that would like to be disseminated to the SEA membership. The Research Committee, after reviewing the surveys, makes a recommendation to the SEA Board regarding the need and propriety of the survey to the SEA members. The Research Committee is considered to be a committee of high strategic importance. I would like to thank all of the members who have dedicated time to this committee and I would encourage any members of SEA to join us. Any one interested can meet with us at the round table discussions at the meetings or contact the research committee chair if they have questions, or would be interested in joining the committee or would like advice regarding research related resources. Thank you Consultants in Medical Education ResearchAnesthesiologists involved in the world of medical education are sometimes involved with medical education research. Unfortunately, we often are not formally trained in this area and learn these research skills as we go through the process. There are anesthesia educators that have developed some of these medical education research skills through formal training and experience and many of these individuals are members of SEA. Some of them are willing to be medical education research consultants to a SEA member in need. This service is available to SEA members only. If you have questions regarding a research project, an idea, or an abstract, please contact Dr Cladis ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and he will select a consultant to help you. Medical Education Journals and Series

One important method of showcasing yourself is by including an Educators Portfolio with your traditional CV.The website of the The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators at the University of California, San Francisco is a great resource for anyone interested to get additional information on this subject. With permission, we hope to post some sample porfolios. JEPMThe Journal of Education in Perioperative Medicine (JEPM) is the official electronic journal of the SEA. It publishes twice (sometimes 3 times annually) with sections featuring review articles, original articles, special articles, brief reports and letters. There is also a section specifically devoted to educational materials the electronic educational library (ELL). ELL is a format where educators are encouraged to submit educational materials which they find to be helpful. Resident Education
